This FAQ should help you with any questions or problems that you may have with adding or removing your email address from the NS-Lists mailing list communication system.
When you use the registration system to check your status, or to add or remove yourself from the system, it sends an email to the email address that you provided in order to verify that the address is correct, working, and that you have access to that mail account. In the case of adding or removing your address the email will contain a link to a web page to confirm the request. You must use this link to confirm your request or no changes will take place.
When you register, your email address is added to all relevant mailing lists. This usually includes mailing lists for each homeroom, grade, and school-wide use. Depending on exactly how your school uses the NS-Lists system they may add your student to other lists as well. For example, they may create lists for sports, performing arts, clubs, enrichment classes or special school functions. By registering, you will automatically receive mail for the appropriate lists whenever it is sent to these lists by faculty, staff, or authorized volunteers.
Use the "Status" command on the registration form. This will show you the current registration information for the email address provided.
You need to register separately for each student. This is the only way to assure that you will receive all school communications relevant to all of your student's classes and activities.
Simply register each adult for each student. The mailing list system is perfectly happy to accept more than one registration per student (each with a different email address).
Simply register each address separately. The mailing list system is perfectly happy to accept more than one email address per student.
All messages to the NS-Lists mailing lists share a few common attributes:
To help prevent spam filters from interrupting your NS-Lists mail you should add the address "ns-lists@ns-lists.org" to your "contacts list", "safe senders list", "whitelist", or similar. You can usually do this manually, or by following these steps:
If you manage your own email server, or if your IT department is willing to help you by adding "whitelist" information directly on the mail server, please contact us at help@ns-lists.org and we will be happy to provide you with the necessary information.
Try entering your student's name as it appears on the official school roster. The system will do its best to match names whenever possible, even trying various nicknames and some standard variations. But it is not always able to reconcile the difference. The most common problem is when a student is known by more than one name, such as is common with nicknames and middle names. The other common problem is compound first or last names. Try various combinations of these names.
If you are still unable to register, the problem may be that your student is simply unknown to the system. This is not too uncommon for students who are new to the school at the very beginning of the school year as their new student information is still being finalized and entered into various databases. In this case you should wait for the first week of school and then try again. If the problem persists beyond the first week of school, please bring it to the attention of someone in the school office or message help@ns-lists.org.
When your email address changes you should add your new address and then remove your old address.
If you do not have a valid email address registered with the system you will no longer receive relevant school email. Please update your email address whenever it changes so that you will continue to receive relevant school messages without interruption.
Any email address that is no longer valid will cause an error within the system whenever it tries to send a message to that address.
Your NS-Lists mail may be getting caught by anti-spam filters. Please see the SPAM question, above.
Or you may have been removed from the mailing list registration database. You may check on your current registration status by using the Status command on the registration page.
Any email address that returns "undeliverable" may be automatically or manually removed from the NS-Lists system at any time. This is necessary to maintain the smooth operation of the mailing list system and to keep the various ISPs, such as AOL, Yahoo, and gmail happy. "Undeliverable" addresses are usually the result of a cancelled or terminated email account, but they can also result from a mailbox being full or sometimes even from poorly implemented anti-spam filters.
